Meet Mpiima Mugambe
My name is Mpiima Mugambe, and I am honored to call Lynnwood home. My journey began in Uganda, where I sought asylum in 2012, fleeing political persecution in search of safety and opportunity. Since arriving in the United States, I have dedicated my life to uplifting and advocating for those who are often overlooked—whether as a mental health professional, community leader, or policy advocate.
As a Mental Health Professional on the Crisis Team at DESC, I work directly with individuals facing homelessness, addiction, and mental health challenges. I founded Immigrant Guide to support immigrants and refugees navigating life in the U.S. And as an instructor at the University of Washington School of Social Work, I train future social workers to lead with empathy and equity.
My advocacy has taken me from the streets of Lynnwood to the halls of Congress, where I’ve worked on securing funding for HIV/AIDS prevention, housing initiatives, and human rights protections.
Now, I am running for Lynnwood City Council because I believe in a city where every resident—regardless of background—can thrive. Together, we can build a stronger, more inclusive Lynnwood that works for everyone.
